The University of Texas Libraries invites applications for the position of Biosciences Librarian.  The incumbent will provide innovative research and instructional support services to the College of Natural Sciences and the broader academic community, with a focus in the biological sciences.

This position offers the opportunity to provide innovative research and instruction support services to the College of Natural Sciences and the broader academic community, with a focus in the biological sciences.  Primary responsibilities include:  Liaison to designated departments and research centers within the College of Natural Sciences; provide reference services in all appropriate media, including individual and small group research consultation; manage collections in support of relevant curricula and research. Develop content of subject-based web pages; collaborate with faculty to achieve information literacy learning goals, including providing course-specific instruction, consultation on assignments, and creating digital research guides and/or tutorials. Collaborate with faculty in relevant academic units to support the research enterprise; engagement with users in areas of scholarly communication, including open access, e-Science, and data management services. Plan for the repurposing of library spaces; identify development opportunities; and market and assess library services. Demonstrated ability to be a flexible and creative self-starter who is energetic, entrepreneurial, customer-focused, ready to take on new roles in a collaborative, fast-paced, and change-oriented environment, and willing to take the lead in new initiatives and projects.

The Bioscience Librarian is a member of the STEM Liaison Team and report to the team leader.  Active participation in UT Libraries committee and project team efforts, wider campus initiatives, relevant professional organizations, and professional development activities is expected.

UT Austin is home to more than 51,000 students and 3,000 teaching faculty.  The College of Natural Sciences is one of the largest colleges of science in the United States, with a community of more than 13,000 undergraduate and graduate students, 700 tenure and non-tenure track faculty members, and 1,200 staff.

Librarian I Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program. Demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with the literature, database resources and research processes in the sciences. Experience providing library instruction, or creating library instruction materials such as assignments, research guides or tutorials for college-level students and faculty. Experience providing reference and research consultation service in an academic- or research-level setting. Knowledge of current issues in scholarly communication, including such areas as: open access publishing, research data management, author rights management, publication metrics, reputation management, and/or data curation/visualization services. Evidence of a strong commitment to user-centered services. Evidence of excellent communication, public speaking, teaching, writing, organizational, and analytical skills. Demonstrated willingness to respond to new opportunities with initiative, creative energy, and leadership. Ability to respond effectively to changing needs and priorities. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.

Librarian I Preferred Qualifications: Degree in biological sciences or related field. Experience working in scientific research setting. 1-3 years successful professional library experience with responsibility for subject areas in biological sciences. Experience building and maintaining collections. 2 years experience providing information literacy instruction to graduate students, faculty, and staff. Experience collaborating with faculty on instruction projects, including instruction integrated into courses or course management systems. Experience developing and maintaining web guides or resources. Experience with any or all of the following: collaborating with faculty on research or publishing projects; providing data management services, including data management plans; analyzing publication metrics; designing and promoting innovative programming and services in support of research and teaching in liaison departments. Experience planning and implementing the redesign of library spaces. Past success in grant-writing or other development initiatives. Evidence of initiative, creativity and resourcefulness. Demonstrated potential for leadership at university, state, national and international levels.

Librarian II Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program. A degree or two years of relevant Subject Liaison or collection development experience in a STEM field. Demonstrated subject knowledge and familiarity with the scientific literature, database resources and research processes in the sciences. Experience providing library instruction, or creating library instruction materials such as assignments, research guides or tutorials for college-level students and faculty. Experience providing reference and research consultation service in an academic- or research-level setting. Knowledge of current issues in scholarly communication, including such areas as: open access publishing, research data management, author rights management, publication metrics, reputation management, and/or data curation/visualization services. Experience building and maintaining collections. 2 years experience providing information literacy instruction to graduate students, faculty, and staff. Experience collaborating with faculty on instruction projects, including instruction integrated into courses or course management systems. Experience developing and maintaining web guides or resources. Experience with any or all of the following: collaborating with faculty on research or publishing projects; providing data management services, including data management plans; analyzing publication metrics; designing and promoting innovative programming and services in support of research and teaching in liaison departments. Experience planning and implementing the redesign of library spaces. Past success in grant-writing or other development initiatives. Evidence of initiative, creativity and resourcefulness. Demonstrated potential for leadership at university, state, national and international levels.

Salary and Benefits:  $49,992 annually or more, depending on qualifications and experience.  No state or local income tax.  Standard state benefits package including annual vacation and sick leave, paid holidays, retirement plans, and health insurance options (comprehensive major medical and HMO plans, dental, vision, life, and disability).  Deferred compensation and tax sheltered annuity programs also available.
