The 2013 Digital Library Federation (DLF) Forum is seeking proposals for presentations, panel discussions, workshops, research updates, and hands-on, problem-solving sessions.

The Digital Library Federation is a robust and diverse community of practitioners who advance research, teaching, and learning through the application of digital library research, technology, and services. The Forum is a working meeting where DLF members come together to discover better methods of working through sharing and collaboration. It serves as a resource and catalyst for collaboration among digital library developers, project managers, and all who are invested in digital library issues.

Participation is open to all those interested in contributing to and playing an active part in the successful future of digital libraries, museums, and archives services and collections. In that spirit, and to maximize the Forum’s benefit and better facilitate the community’s work, the Forum’s schedule will provide many opportunities to actively engage and network. DLF has a number of sponsorship opportunities available to help promote your institution or corporate brand. Available opportunities support the annual Forum, which fosters collaboration across all areas of digital library operations and brings together those serving in the field. Save the date: Next year’s DLF Forum will be held October 27-29 at the Georgia Tech Hotel & Conference Center.

Due to the closing of the Indianapolis Conference center, we chose Atlanta, as it had a strong showing in previous location votes.

Details for the 2013 DLF Forum will be posted to the website as the planning process moves forward.

We would like to thank everyone who volunteered to be a part of the 2013 DLF Forum Program Planning Committee (PPC). We had an incredible number of responses! The PPC slate was determined by several factors like including a mix of veterans and new members to represent the DLF community. There will be other opportunities for community members to contribute to the 2013 DLF Forum as we move closer to the event.

The Digital Library Federation would like to invite members of our community, and those involved in the greater digital library community, to participate in the planning of the 2013 DLF Forum. Being part of the Program Planning Committee (PPC) will involve participation in bi-weekly planning phone calls beginning seven months before the Forum, as well as attendance at the Forum in Austin, TX November 3-6.

If you are interesting in playing a vital role in shaping the 2013 DLF Forum, please send Jena Winberry (jwinberry [at] clir [dot] org) a letter of interest by February 22, 2013. We will announce the Program Planning Committee membership by the beginning of March.

Social media tools and platforms and the network effect have changed the way we work, connect, and collaborate. We have meetings with colleagues using Skype on our cell phones or iPads; we catch up on trends and new ideas via hashtags on Twitter; we catch up on news via blogs and other dynamic modes of publishing. With all that has changed in the workplace, why do our conferences, for the most part, remain static with the traditional “sage on the stage” broadcasting their message? The Digital Library Federation and the 2012 Program Planning Committee are proud to announce the recipients of the 2012 DLF Forum Fellowships for Librarians New to the Profession!

Each of the Forum Fellows will receive complimentary hotel, travel, board, and registration (up to $1,000) to attend the 2012 DLF Forum in Denver, CO. Fellowships are awarded to librarians, library staff, and LIS students new to the profession, based on strength of application essay, nomination, and resume.

This year’s Forum will be held November 4-5 in Denver, CO, with pre- and post-conference events taking place November 2, 3, and 6.
