DLF sponsoring a scholarship to OpenCon 2015

DLF is thrilled to announce that we are sponsoring a scholarship for one DLF community member to attend OpenCon 2015 from November 14–16, 2015 in Brussels, Belgium. The DLF OpenCon Scholarship enabled great work in 2014, and we are excited to offer the opportunity again this year.

About OpenCon

OpenCon began in 2014 in Washington, DC, an international conference bringing together students and early career academic professionals to advance Open Access, Open Data, and Open Education. This year’s conference will be held November 14–16, 2015 in Brussels, Belgium.

From the OpenCon 2015 website:

The meeting will convene students and early career academic professionals from around the world and serve as a powerful catalyst for projects led by the next generation to advance OpenCon’s three focus areas—Open Access, Open Education, and Open Data. Through a program of keynotes, panel discussions, workshops, and hackathons, participants will build skills in key areas—from raising institutional awareness to coordinating national-level campaigns effectively.

OpenCon is organized by the Right to Research CoalitionSPARC (The Scholarly Publishing and Academic Resources Coalition), and an international Organizing Committee of students and early career researchers.

About the Scholarship

The DLF OpenCon Scholarship will support full travel expenses for one participant from a DLF member institution. The scholarship recipient will be invited to write about their experiences on the DLF website. To hear from a past awardee, read the blog post by Jennifer Beamer, who was sponsored by the DLF to attend OpenCon 2014.[pullquote2 quotes=”true” align=”right” variation=”blue” cite=”Jennifer Beamer, University of Hawai’i at Mānoa”]Now our Masters and Ph.D. students can make a wider impact, and hopefully inspire other students in their scholarly journey. None of this would have happened had it not been for the support from the Digital Library Federation.[/pullquote2]

All applicants should make sure to mention that they are affiliated with a DLF member institution in their applications. Include “DLF member institution” in the “Organization(s) with which you are affiliated” box on the OpenCon application form.
